Teen allegedly killed in Lakshmipur over failure to pay tk 1 lakh ransom
A teenager was kidnapped and killed in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur and his body was dumped. The deceased teenager, Md. Rajib, 14, was said to have driven an autorickshaw to support his family.
According to family information, Rajib left home in an autorickshaw around 8pm on Friday (May 1). He had been missing since then. At night, an unknown person used Rajib's phone to call his father and demand a ransom of 1 lakh taka.
The family was distraught and could not confirm the matter. Later, locals found his bloody body in a deserted garden on the west side of the Hat School in the upazila's camp on Saturday afternoon (May 2). Police recovered the body after receiving information.
Police said that the deceased had multiple injury marks on his head. Initially, it is believed to be a murder.
The family of the deceased said that he was killed for not paying the ransom.
Rajiv's maternal uncle alleged that the kidnappers brutally killed him after not getting the money.
The officer-in-charge of Raipur police station said that the incident is being investigated seriously. The issue of ransom demand is also being verified. A drive is underway to identify those involved.
The incident has spread extreme panic among the locals. The locals have demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment.
