Teen arrested after video of schoolgirls being harassed goes viral
Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in Mirzapur, Tangail, after a video showing him allegedly harassing schoolgirls went viral on social media.
Ismail Khan was arrested from his home in Bahuria Union late on Monday night. He is the son of Kitab Khan of Khanpara village in the upazila.
According to police and local sources, Ismail and several associates had allegedly been harassing female students travelling to and from Geramara Gohailbari Sabuj Sena High School for an extended period.
On Sunday, during school hours, he allegedly rode a motorcycle recklessly on the road adjacent to the school and harassed female students.
Several local residents recorded the incident on their mobile phones and shared the footage on social media, where it quickly went viral, triggering widespread criticism.
Following the incident, the mother of one of the victims filed a written complaint with Mirzapur Police Station on Monday morning. Acting on the complaint, police conducted a raid later that night and arrested Ismail.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said the victim's mother filed the complaint after the video spread across social media, and Ismail Khan was subsequently arrested.
He added that legal proceedings in connection with the case are currently under way.
