Teen dies in drowning in Jaflong
A teenager drowned while visiting the Jaflong tourist spot in Sylhet's Gowainghat upazila on Eid vacation. He went missing in the Zero Point area of Jaflong around 4pm and was recovered dead around 6pm on Monday (June 1).
The deceased, Imtiaz Hossain Rahi, 16, is the son of Jasim Uddin of Fatehabad village of Hathazari police station in Chattogram district.
Police and local sources said that a group of 12 people including Rahi came to Sylhet for a visit from Hathazari. In the afternoon, Rahi and some others went to bathe in the Piain river in the Zero Point area of Jaflong. At one point, Rahi was swept away by the current.
Later, with the help of locals, the Gowainghat police station and a diving team conducted an hour-long rescue operation and recovered him dead two hours after he went missing.
Gowainghat police station OC Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident and said the body has been recovered and the family of the deceased has been informed.
