Teen killed after seeking justice for rape, 5 arrested in Narsingdi
Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the incident of abduction and killing of a 15-year-old girl named Ameena Khatun in Narsingdi for allegedly in retaliation for seeking justice in a rape incident.
Earlier, the victim’s mother filed a case with Madhabdi Police Station late Thursday night (February 26), accusing nine individuals.
In an overnight operation, law enforcers arrested four of the named accused — Ebadullah, 40, Ahmed Ali Member, 63, Md. Imran Dewan, 32, and Md. Ayub, 30, Md. Gaffar, 37.
Police recovered Ameena's body with an orna wrapped around her neck from a mustard field in the Darikandi area of Mahishashura union on Thursday morning.
All aspects of the incident are under investigation, police said.
According to family members, she had allegedly been abducted and raped by several local youths about two weeks earlier. Although the matter was reportedly settled locally at the time, relatives claim she was later abducted and killed after the family renewed demands for justice.
Md Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhabdi Police Station, said, "The five FIR-named suspects have been detained and drives are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused."
Khairul Kabir Khokon, joint secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and MP for Narsingdi-1, called for swift arrests and justice for the victim’s family in a post on his verified Facebook page.
