Teenage girl commits suicide not getting justice for rape
A young man named Rakib Hossain has been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl at Ramgati upazila in Lakshmipur.
After the alleged rape, a local arbitration meeting was held, but instead of getting justice the teenage girl was scolded there. As a result, she committed suicide due to mental stress.
The victim's mother has filed a case with Ramgati Police Station against 12 people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Police have already arrested one person named Helal Uddin.
Confirming the matter at around 9pm on Saturday (March 8), Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kabir Hossain said, "On Friday evening, the girl's mother filed a case against 12 people as the plaintiff. A drive is underway to arrest the main accused Rakib Hossain and others."
According to the case statement, the girl had been in a love relationship with accused Rakib for about seven months. In continuation of this, Rakib entered the girl's house on the night of March 1 and raped her. Then, when her mother came to know about the matter entering the girl’s room, Rakib ran away.
The next day, when the victim's family informed Rakib's parents about the matter, they pressured them not to tell anyone. But when the incident became known, some people, including the accused, organised an arbitration meeting. Locals said that instead of getting justice for the rape, the girl was slandered.
Earlier, on Thursday morning, a man named Helal Uddin entered their house and threatened the victim and her mother. This caused the teenager to have a mental breakdown. She committed suicide that afternoon. Later, the police recovered her body from the scene.
