Teenage mom gets baby's custody on condition she stays off facebook and TikTok

A 13-year-old mother from Hazaribagh in Dhaka, whose case recently drew widespread public attention, has been reunited with her seven-month-old baby.

However, the Dhaka District Legal Aid Office has advised and required her to refrain from using social media platforms, including Facebook and TikTok.

The office also said that the issue of the child's permanent guardianship would ultimately be decided by the competent Family Court.

A hearing on the child's custody was held at the Dhaka District Legal Aid Office on Tuesday.

Following the hearing, District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Assistant Judge Md Sayem Khan said that, under the existing law, the seven-month-old child would remain with the mother for the time being.

Both parties were also instructed to comply with the law in the future.
According to Legal Aid officials, the father's petition seeking permanent guardianship of the child is currently pending before the relevant Family Court. As a result, the final decision on custody will depend on the court's verdict.

The case recently sparked widespread discussion on social media.

According to the allegations, the teenage girl became acquainted with the child's father through TikTok, after which she was allegedly lured into a notarised marriage.

She later claimed that she was subjected to physical abuse and that her baby was eventually taken away from her.

The child was subsequently returned to the mother through the intervention of the Dhaka District Legal Aid Office.

Following the incident, the Legal Aid Office arranged the hearing to ensure the child's safety and best interests. However, the question of who will receive permanent guardianship of the child will be determined by the Family Court.
