Teenager dies after falling ill on way to Tarique Rahman's rally

A teenage boy has died after falling ill on his way to BNP chairperman Tarique Rahman's public rally in Chattogram .

Meanwhile, two youths received injuries in a separate incident of stumped in the rally at the Polo Grounds on Sunday (January 25) afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, 14, while one of the injured has been identified as Rakib, 25.

Police said Saiful suddenly fell ill as he was feeling suffocated while filming the event. He was rescued and admitted to a private hospital where he was declared dead. The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy.

The two injured youths were also admitted to Chottogram Medical College Hospital.

Mohammad Faruk, deputy general manager of National Hospital, said Saiful Islam was declared dead after he was brought here. The body was later shifted to the mortuary of the hospital.

According to police and hospital sources, the two were injured due to the crowd and pressure during the the public rally. Police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.
