Teenager killed by father's beating, body dumped in sack: Police

A schoolgirl whose body was found stuffed in a sack in Khulna's Nirala Prantika area was beaten to death by her father following a family feud, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has said.

Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan told a press conference on Saturday, July 11, that Arfana Hossain Nirjona, 16, died from severe bleeding after being hit on the head with a wooden stick. Her parents then stuffed the body in a sack and dumped it on a road in Nirala Prantika, leaving the spot on a motorcycle.

Police said Nirjona's mother, Arifa Yasmin Sima, gave a confessional statement before a court on Friday under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, describing the events.

According to police, an argument broke out between Nirjona and family members on the day of the incident. Her mother beat her, and when her father, Md Alim Hossain Akash, heard her screams, he struck her on the head with a wooden stick, causing her death on the spot. The body was then wrapped in a plastic sack and dumped.

The body was recovered on Wednesday night after locals alerted police. Nirjona was a Class 10 student at Khulna Iqbalnagar Secondary School and lived in the Basupara area of Sonadanga.

The police commissioner said there had been a long-standing family dispute over Nirjona's personal relationships, which is believed to have triggered the killing.

Nirjona's mother has been arrested, while her father remains at large. Police said he may have spread misleading information on social media about his daughter's disappearance. A post from Nirjona's Facebook account the night the body was recovered is also being investigated. Police suspect the father may have been involved with drugs.
