The water level of the Teesta river in Lalmonirhat has crossed the danger level due to upstream hill torrents and continuous heavy rainfall. At the Dalia point, the river is flowing 10 centimetres above the danger level, causing water to enter the char areas and low-lying regions, spreading fear of flooding and river erosion among local residents.

According to the Water Development Board, the water level at the Dalia point was recorded at 52.25 metres at 9:00 pm on Sunday, June 28, which is 10 centimetres above the danger level of 52.15 metres. As a result, vast areas of farmland in the Teesta char and low-lying areas have been flooded.

Water has started entering 8 to 10 chars and low-lying areas in six unions of Hatibandha upazila.

Teesta Dalia point water level measurer Nurul Islam said the river is flowing above the danger level due to upstream flow. All 44 gates of the Teesta barrage have been opened to manage the water pressure.

Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Shunil Kumar Ray said the water level has risen due to upstream flow. The situation is being monitored, and residents of low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert.
