Students of Tejgaon College’s higher secondary section blocked the Farmgate intersection in Dhaka on Thursday morning to protest the death of a fellow student, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to thousands of commuters and pedestrians.

The demonstration, which began around 10:00am, follows a violent clash between two groups at the college dormitory on the night of December 6.

Students Sakibul Hasan Rana (Science, Session 2024–25), Hridoy Ahmed (Humanities, Session 2024–25), and Jannat of Ideal College (Humanities, Session 2025–26) were seriously injured in the clash.

Rana’s condition deteriorated at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, and he was later transferred to a private hospital in Malibagh, where he died on December 10.

The college principal visited the site, and a statement from her expressing concern over the incident prompted students to initiate Thursday’s blockade.

Mohammad Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, confirmed a case has been filed and said the police are trying to calm the situation.
