The government has taken initiative to reopen Teknaf land port in Cox's Bazar, which has remained non-operational for a long time due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, Shipping State Minister Md Rajib Ahsan has said.

The state minister visited the land port located on the banks of the Naf River in Keruntali area under Teknaf Sadar union on Monday, April 6. He held meetings with officials from concerned departments, law enforcement agencies, business representatives and parties involved in port management.

During the visit, the state minister inspected stored goods and the overall situation at the port area. He later told journalists that the government has started working to reactivate Teknaf land port. Discussions have been held with all concerned parties including BGB, Coast Guard, Customs, NBR and C&F agents.

He said initiatives are being taken to restart border trade considering public demand and business interests. Efforts are also underway to normalise trade activities through coordination between Bangladesh and Myanmar governments.

Port Authority Chairman (Additional Secretary) Muhammad Manjarul Mannan said although the port is officially open, operations had been disrupted due to security limitations. With the situation now improved, there is no major obstacle to import and export, and port operations are gradually being normalised.
