Tensions, violence reported at Dhanmondi 32 amid tight security

Strict security measures were implemented around the Dhanmondi 32 area in Dhaka as police and alternative groups heavily guarded the site of the dismantled residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Barricades were erected across main access points, pedestrian and vehicular movement was restricted, and armored vehicles along with water cannons were deployed early in the morning to prevent potential unrest.

Despite the heavy presence of law enforcement, the situation turned volatile throughout the day as individuals attempting to offer tributes or document the scene were harassed, assaulted, and handed over to the police. A group led by A N M Ayas, identifying as "July Warriors" and associated with the "Rashtra Sanglap Forum," actively set up positions around the perimeter. Ayas claimed their actions were intended to assist law enforcement by preventing members of the banned Awami League and Jubo League from gathering, insisting that their interventions did not constitute mob action.

Several physical altercations were documented at the site. A rickshaw puller named Almas was beaten after being accused of taking video footage for political operatives; he was later taken into police custody for his safety. Another individual from Dinajpur, identified as Nipu Mia and alleged by the group to be a Jubo League activist, was similarly assaulted before being detained by authorities.

Additionally, a man holding a bag of samosas intended for distribution was attacked and chased away, while another individual who chanted political slogans was beaten before fleeing the area.
Police confirmed that three individuals—Arnab Das, Nipu Mia, and Almas—were taken into custody from the vicinity. Arnab Das, who arrived from Tangail carrying flowers, was detained by police officers and subsequently booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act before being produced in court, where his bail application was rejected.

The incidents have drawn widespread criticism regarding the role of private individuals acting with impunity in front of law enforcement officers. Concerns have been raised by observers over how civilian groups were permitted to search, assault, and detain members of the public within a high-security zone under active police surveillance.
