Ishiat Shahriar Opritom, 13-year-old son of associate professor Dr Nahida Begum of Bangla department of Comilla University, has been seen roaming with a teenager before going missing. They are seen together in a 46-second CCTV footage published on Saturday (September 19).

In the footage Opritom is seen coming out of the house with his mother’s iPhone in hand and going in front of a grocery shop. After some time a teenager wearing a cap arrives there. Afterwards the two are seen leaving that place together. It is not clear in the footage where they went after that.

Police and university sources said after Opritom went missing various CCTV footages of Kotbari and university-adjacent areas were being reviewed to recover him. On Saturday morning the proctorial team of the university saw Opritom with that teenager near the main gate of the university while reviewing the footage. It is assumed that the teenager’s age is more than Opritom’s and he had a cap on his head.

Officer-in-charge of Comilla Sadar Dakshin thana Mohammad Rakibul Islam said Opritom came in front of Comilla University by autorickshaw around 4:30pm on Friday. There he is seen shaking hands and talking with a boy.

Police said Opritom’s blood-stained body was recovered from the lonely area of Lalmai hill of Bijoypur Sananda village under Cumilla Sadar Dakshin upazila around 1pm on Saturday. There were marks of serious injury on his head. However the cause of his death could not be confirmed immediately.

OC Mohammad Rakibul Islam said the teenager has been detained on suspicion of involvement with the incident after reviewing the CCTV footage. He was detained from Kotbari area at noon on Saturday after the recovery of the body. He is being interrogated in the interest of investigation.
