The way country's economy has bounced back in the last 6 months is a miracle: Press Secretary
The Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, commented that the way Bangladesh’s economy has bounced back in the last six months is nothing short of a miracle. He stated, "Before the interim government took office, the country's economy had reached a point where it could have collapsed at any time."
He made these remarks while addressing the "DJFB Talk" event, organized by the Development Journalist Forum of Bangladesh (DJFB), on Wednesday at the NEC conference hall in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
The Press Secretary added, "There is a need to restore discipline in the energy sector. The sector has been looted under state sponsorship. We are working on a permanent solution to the electricity sector. Talks are ongoing with major power companies. We want to drill numerous wells for gas."
He further stated, "The efficiency of the Chattogram port will be increased. Without improving the efficiency of this port, investment will not increase. To re-export, Chattogram’s efficiency must be enhanced. We are in talks with major global companies for this. We want to develop every port in Chattogram, which will directly boost foreign investment."
He also said, "No one will invest unless the energy system is efficient. The power system has been set up to facilitate looting. The country needs investment, but that hasn't been done. The revenue system was not effective. The previous government spent money without planning. 560 model mosques were built with excessive costs, which could have been done for a much lower cost. Rail lines were laid in a manner that doesn’t allow trains to run daily. This is nothing but a waste of public money."
