There will be no electricity crisis during Tarabi-Sehri: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said there will be no shortage of electricity during Tarabi and Sehri in the holy month of Ramadan. The premier also informed about generating and distributing electricity with subsidy.
She said this in responding to a supplementary question by Abul Kalam, an independent member of parliament from Natore-1 constituency in the National Parliament on Wednesday (February 28).
Prime Minister said, "We have already decided that there will be uninterrupted power supply during Tarabi prayers
and Sehri. Rather, if it is necessary to save electricity, load shedding can be done at some time of the day for two or three hours when the demand is low. It will be at a tolerable level."
She also said, "We spend a lot of money to produce electricity. We distribute it as subsidy. Now the price of everything including oil, LNG and transport has gone up globally. Still we make efforts to ensure uninterrupted power supply."
Pointing out that there was once 10-12 hours of load shedding in the country, Sheikh Hasina said, "However, I think it is good to have (load shedding) sometimes. Otherwise, people will forget the past. At least you will understand where you were, and now where you are."
