Thinking about country's development without women would be wrong: Army Chief
Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman said, “Women make up 50 per cent of the country. It would be wrong to think about the country’s development without them. Therefore, women must be developed skilfully. We are seeking women’s leadership and empowerment in various areas. Women will strengthen their position in different fields. They will continue to contribute to nation-building.”
He made the remarks while delivering the keynote speech at the reunion of former cadets of Joypurhat Girls Cadet College on Friday at 11am.
This was the first reunion event for former students of Joypurhat Girls Cadet College. Friday marked the second day of the three-day programme. Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman received salutes at the reunion parade. He wished success and continuous prosperity to the cadets and former cadets participating in the parade.
The army chief said, “Many of us are self-educated but not properly educated. We achieve good results in schools, colleges, and universities, complete PhDs, and assume important state responsibilities. Yet, due to a lack of morality among some, we are unable to perform well. Morality is extremely important. Being a good student or having good results is not enough. We must all be good human beings.”
Also speaking at the event were Mohammad Ariful Haque, principal of Joypurhat Girls Cadet College, and Mousumi Shikha, president of the Joypurhat Former Cadets Association. Present at the programme were 11 Infantry Division and Bogura Area Commander Major General Touhidul Ahmed, army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman’s wife Komolika Zaman, Joypurhat district commissioner Afroza Akhtar Chowdhury, police superintendent Md Abdul Wahab, teachers and staff of the college, parents, and members of the media.
