Faridpur, located along the Padma River, has long been a stronghold of the Awami League in national parliamentary elections. Although the BNP has occasionally won a few seats in the district, the Awami League has historically dominated. Election results from past contests (excluding 2014, 2018, and 2024) reflect this trend. However, with the absence of the Awami League in this election, the voting landscape of the district has changed. Let’s take a quick look at the electoral contest in Faridpur’s four constituencies.

Faridpur-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 211) : Faridpur-1 consists of Madhukhali, Boalmari, and Alfadanga upazilas. The constituency office is located in Boalmari upazila. The total number of voters in Faridpur-1 is 510,540, including 259,335 male, 251,204 female, and 1 hijra voter.

Candidates: Nine candidates are contesting in Faridpur-1 in the Thirteenth National Parliament Election. They include Mrinmoy Kanti Das from Bangladesh Minority Janata Party (BMJP) with the Rocket symbol, Khandekar Nasirul Islam from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the Paddy Sheaf symbol, Md. Hasibur Rahman (Independent, Deer symbol), Sheikh Abdur Rahman Jiko (Independent, Camel symbol), Sultan Ahmed Khan from Jatiya Party with the Plough symbol, Md. Golam Kabir Mia (Independent, Motorcycle symbol), Md. Arifur Rahman (Independent, Ship symbol), Md. Abul Bashar Khan (Independent, Football symbol), and Md. Ilias Molla from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the Scale symbol.

Elected MPs: In Faridpur-1, Shah Mohammad Abu Zafar (Awami League) was elected in 1986, Md. Abdur Rouf Mia (Awami League) in 1991, Kazi Sirajul Islam (Awami League) in February 1996 and 2001, and Abdur Rahman (Awami League) in 2008.

Faridpur-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 212) : Faridpur-2 includes Nagarkanda and Saltha upazilas. The constituency has a total of 332,041 voters, comprising 172,904 male and 159,137 female voters.

Candidates:
Six candidates are contesting Faridpur-2 in the Thirteenth National Parliament Election. They include Shah Md. Jamal Uddin from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol, Akramuzzaman from Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh with the Apple symbol, Shama Obaid Islam from BNP with the Paddy Sheaf symbol, Md. Akram Ali from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis with the Rickshaw symbol, Faruk Fakir from Ganadhikar Parishad (GOP) with the Truck symbol, and Md. Nazmul Hasan from Bangladesh Congress with the Coconut symbol.

Elected MPs:
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury (Awami League) was elected in 1991, M. Obaidur Rahman (BNP) in 1996 and 2001, and Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury (Awami League) in 2008.

Faridpur-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 213) :
Faridpur-3 covers Faridpur Sadar upazila. The total number of voters is 432,628, including 216,022 male, 216,600 female, and 6 hijra voters.

Candidates: Six candidates are contesting in Faridpur-3. They include Arifa Akter Baby from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) with the Star symbol, Nayab Yusuf Ahmed from BNP with the Paddy Sheaf symbol, Morshedul Islam Asif (Independent, Deer symbol), Md. Abdut Tawab from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the Scale symbol, K. M. Sarwar from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol, and Md. Rafiquzzaman Mia from Bangladesh Communist Party with the Hammer symbol.

Elected MPs: Mahbub Jan Chowdhury (Bangladesh Krishak Shramik Awami League) was elected in 1986, Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf (BNP) in 1991, 1996, and 2001, and Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain (Awami League) in 2008.

Faridpur-4 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 214) :
Faridpur-4 consists of Bhanga, Sadarpur, and unions of Charbhadrason upazilas. The constituency has a total of 496,706 voters, including 254,655 male, 242,050 female, and 1 hijra voter.

Candidates: Eight candidates are contesting in Faridpur-4. They include Mizanur Rahman from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis with the Rickshaw symbol, Md. Sarwar Hossain from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the Scale symbol, Raihan Jamil from Jatiya Party with the Plough symbol, A. A. M. Mujahid Beg (Independent, Football symbol), Muhammad Mujibur Hossain (Independent, Horse symbol), Md. Shahidul Islam from BNP with the Paddy Sheaf symbol, Md. Ishak Chowdhury from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol, and Ataur Rahman from Bangladesh Communist Party with the Hammer symbol.

Elected MPs: Mosharraf Hossain (Awami League) was elected in 1991 and 1996, Saleha Mosharraf (Awami League) in the 1999 by-election, Md. Abdur Razzak (Awami League) in 2001, Chowdhury Akmal Ibne Yusuf (BNP) in the 2002 by-election, and Nilufar Jafar (Awami League) in 2008.
