I don't want destruction, I want peace. Students and the young generation are our future. The youth should work to realize their dreams.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said this in a virtually telecasted speech at a BNP rally in the capital's Nayapaltan on Wednesday (August 7) afternoon.

BNP organised the first rally after the fall of Awami League government. Khaleda Zia along with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman delivered speeches at the rally virtually.

Khaleda did not get a chance to speak to the media or in front of the countrymen after February 8, 2018. After seven years, she spoke in front of the people.

Thanking everyone at the beginning of her speech, she said, “We have been freed from the hands of the fascist government through a long movement and struggle. This victory brought us to a new struggle. Let's build a Bangladesh of love and peace, not revenge and vengeance. Now, we have to build prosperous Bangladesh. Let's strengthen the hands of the youth.”

The two-time former prime minister last addressed a political rally before her arrest in an ACC case in 2018. Since then, she could not appear in front of the activists in any rally. She was inactive in politics for a long time. She was recently released by executive order.

Earlier, the rally started at 3:30 pm with the recitation of Holy Quran on a temporary stage in front of the party's central office in Nayapaltan.
