This was not supposed to happen: Tarique Rahman
Highlighting the concerns of the people regarding the upcoming national elections, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that during the interim government, the question is increasing in some areas in the public mind, will the elections be held on time?... This was not supposed to happen.
He said: "The path to democracy is being made critical by constantly adding new conditions one after another in the country."
Tarique Rahman said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the online payment gateway programme for BNP's membership renewal and new member recruitment event abroad. He joined the programme virtually from London. BNP organized the event at a hotel in Gulshan in the capital on Sunday evening.
Tarique Rahman commented that the doubts and suspicions created in the public mind regarding the national elections could make the path to democracy critical.
Tarique Rahman also expressed concern about whether we will have to walk the path of unconditional surrender to some undemocratic or evil force in the end.
He urged all democratic political parties currently in the field in Bangladesh to remember such dangers.
The acting chairman of BNP mentioned that organized propaganda and tactics to prevent BNP's victory have started to become visible.
He said: "What is worrying and surprising is that even in fascism-free Bangladesh, organized propaganda and tactics to prevent BNP's victory have started to become visible."
Tarique Rahman mentioned that however, he believes that if the citizens who believe in the nationalist power of Bangladesh are united, no conspiracy will be able to separate BNP from the people.
