The government is amending the Cyber Security Ordinance. Through this amendment, all cases previously filed under the Digital Security Act that have been dismissed are being officially annulled, and a new provision has been added to the Cyber Security Ordinance. As a result, everyone convicted under this law or accused in cases will be freed from legal liability.

On Friday (October 10), Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul shared this update on his Facebook post.

In the post, Asif Nazrul wrote, “At yesterday’s meeting of the Advisory Council, arrangements were made to cancel all cases (speech offenses) filed under the 2018 Digital Security Act. As a result, everyone convicted under this law or accused in cases will be freed from legal liability.”

The decision was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council on Thursday (October 9) at the Chief Advisor’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, chaired by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The council also approved amendments to Section 50 of the Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025, along with 11 other ordinances and three proposals.
