BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that anyone speaking against the upcoming national election will be sidelined from politics.

Speaking to the media at his Gulshan residence on Tuesday (August 26), Salahuddin said, “The election will be held in February without a doubt. Anyone opposing it or attempting to create confusion will be politically irrelevant.”

He clarified that the issue of proportional representation (PR) or a constituent assembly was not discussed at the National Consensus Commission. “These demands are being used as political tactics to create unrest. The real response will come from the ground,” he added.

Salahuddin stated that BNP remains committed to a fair and inclusive election aimed at restoring democracy and ending authoritarian rule. He acknowledged differences with some aspects of the July Charter but said BNP is open to further discussions through the consensus commission. However, “any proposal that goes beyond the Constitution will not be accepted,” he emphasized.

On political alliances, Salahuddin ruled out any possibility of partnering with Jamaat-e-Islami but said BNP is in talks with parties that were part of the simultaneous movement. Discussions are also ongoing with several Islamic groups, though no final decision has been made.

He added that parties choosing to boycott the election for political convenience will ultimately exclude themselves from future political relevance.
