Those seeking votes for Daripalla symbol backed Pakistan in 1971: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General and Dhaka-1 candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said those seeking votes under the scales symbol had supported Pakistan during the 1971 Liberation War.

He made the remarks while addressing an election street rally in Auliapur Union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Saturday (January 24).

Fakhrul said the people of Bangladesh had fought the war themselves against Pakistani forces to achieve independence, adding that those who had opposed independence were now returning to voters with a different political identity.

Calling the February 12 election crucial for restoring democracy, he urged voters to support the BNP’s 'Dhaner Shish' symbol.

He also pledged to prioritise rural infrastructure development and ensure security for people of all faiths if elected.
