Three arrested for allegedly raping elderly woman in Manikganj

Police have arrested three individuals on charges of raping a beggar woman aged over 60 in Shivalaya upazila, Manikganj. The accused also allegedly snatched a silver chain from the victim.

According to police and local sources, the incident took place on May 30 afternoon in the South Teota area. The victim was begging when two individuals took her to a secluded area in an easybike under the pretext of helping her. She was then physically assaulted and raped. The attackers also snatched a silver chain from her neck.

After the victim informed her family, locals helped detain two of the accused and handed them over to police on Friday, June 5. Based on information from them, a gold trader was also detained for allegedly purchasing the stolen chain, which was later recovered.

Shivalaya Police Station said a case has been filed and the three arrestees have been sent to court. An investigation is ongoing.
