Three killed in bus-truck collision in Natore

Three cattle traders were killed and at least three others were seriously injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a cattle-laden mini truck on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Natore on Saturday (August 8).

The crash took place around 10:30am in the Naya Bazar area of the highway as the traders were travelling to the Chandai Kona cattle market in a bhutbhuti, a locally used three-wheeler.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, Akkas Ali and his elder brother Jahangir Alam, all residents of Lakshmikol in Baraigram upazila.

Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bonpara Highway Police Station, said, "A passenger bus travelling from Dhaka towards Rajshahi collided head-on with the cattle-laden vehicle. Abdur Rahman died at the scene."

Five people were initially taken to Baraigram Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries following the crash. Akkas Ali later died while undergoing treatment there.

Four critically injured people were subsequently transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Jahangir Alam later died at the hospital.

Police recovered both vehicles involved in the crash and said legal proceedings were being initiated over the incident.
