Three days’ remand of 6 foreigners in cyber crime case

The court has granted three days’ remand of six foreigners arrested in a cyber crime case in Cox’s Bazar.

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar S M Gias Uddin gave this order after the hearing at noon on Monday (September 21).

Investigating officer of the case Inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police Abul Kalam applied for five days’ remand of the accused. After the hearing the court granted three days’ remand.

State-side lawyer Shawkat Osman said an application for five days’ remand had been made for further deeply investigating the association of the accused with the crime and examining the seized devices. After the hearing the court has granted three days’ remand.

On the other hand accused-side lawyer Advocate Abdul Mannan said just as it is urgent to bring out the truth of the cyber crime through investigation, in the same way the matter of giving them legal opportunity should also be considered if they have come to Bangladesh for tourism or any other legal work.

Earlier the six foreigners were produced in the court around 9am on Monday. After the hearing they have been sent to jail on the order of the court.

Police arrested them from a hotel of Cox’s Bazar on September 9. A case was filed against them at Ramu police station on the allegation of cyber crime. Later the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police got the responsibility of investigating that case.
