Three dead in separate road accidents in Chuadanga

Three people, including the son of the Chairman of Belgachi Union Parishad, died in two separate road accidents in Alamdanga of Chuadanga on Thursday night.

The deceased have been identified as Riyad (13), the son of Mahmudul Hasan Chanchal, Chairman of Belgachi Union Parishad, Md. Zahurul Islam Palash (35), a resident of Faridpur village in Alamdanga and an employee at the Chairman’s poultry farm, and Hannan Hossain (47), a resident of Kalidaspur village.

According to police and eyewitnesses, Riyad and Palash were returning home to Alamdanga from Kushtia after shopping when a speeding pickup van struck their motorcycle from behind in the Naodapara area. The impact threw both riders off the bike, causing severe injuries. Riyad died instantly at the scene, while Palash succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. The police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, recovered the bodies, and brought them to the police station for further processing.

In a separate incident, around 12:30am, Hannan Hossain was traveling in a battery-operated rickshaw from the Alamdanga Microbus Stand towards the Upazila Parishad gate. According to witnesses, Hannan, who appeared to be intoxicated, lost control of the rickshaw after it struck a speed breaker in front of Alamdanga Police Station. He fell off and suffered severe injuries. Locals immediately took him to a nearby clinic, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Masudur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alamdanga Police Station, said, "The bodies of Riyad and Palash have been handed over to their families after completing the necessary formalities. As of now, no formal complaints have been filed, but we are ready to take legal action if any are submitted."

Regarding Hannan's death, the OC stated, "He had a history of drug use, and it seems his intoxication played a role in the fall. We will confirm the exact cause of death once the post-mortem reports are received."
