Police recovered the decomposed bodies of a man, a woman and a newborn from a locked room at a house in Ashulia of Savar.

The bodies were recovered from a rented house owned by Haji Hazrat Ali in the area early Saturday (September 5).

The identities of the victims could not immediately be established.

According to locals, the room’s doors and windows were usually kept shut. The man and woman had rented the room claiming to be a married couple.

A foul smell began coming from the room on Friday night, prompting residents to alert police. Officers later opened the room and found the three bodies in an advanced state of decomposition.

A forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the scene early Saturday and collected various pieces of evidence.

Locals said the man was found with a gamcha wrapped around his neck.

Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector Rasel Hossain, the duty officer, confirmed the recovery.

He said the victims appeared to have died several days ago based on the condition of the bodies.

Police are investigating whether the deaths were the result of a homicide or another cause, he added.
