Three including woman fined, jailed for assaulting traffic police at Karwan Bazar
Three individuals, including a woman, have been sentenced for assaulting a traffic police constable and damaging his mobile phone at the Hotel Sonargaon signal in Karwan Bazar, capital. The convicts are Afia Konok, an official of Guest Group, and two security personnel of the establishment, Md Shamsuzzaman and Raju Ahmed. The Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court of DMP's Tejgaon division handed down the sentences.
According to DMP's Media and Public Relations Division Deputy Commissioner N M Nasir Uddin, two vehicles emerged from the exit gate of Hotel Sonargaon around 4:45 pm on Saturday and approached the main road. However, the vehicles disobeyed the traffic signal and moved forward.
Four to five individuals got out of the vehicle and told the police officer that there was a VIP in the car and they would not move back. When Constable Shamim Mia attempted to take a video of the number plate for legal action, Afia Konok snatched his mobile phone, threw it on the road and assaulted him.

After hearing and reviewing evidence, the magistrate fined Afia Tk 10,000 and Raju Tk 5,000 under the Road Transport Act. Shamsuzzaman was sentenced to 10 days of simple imprisonment.
