Three killed, 11 injured in Truck–Microbus collision in Kurigram

At least three people were killed and 11 others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus at Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram.

The accident took place around 11:45pm in the Bansheratal area late Tuesday night (April 28).

The deceased were identified as Sadia, 8, daughter of Monir Hossain of Asadmor Uttar Tilai in Bhurungamari; Nur Nabi, 28, son of Zahidul Islam; and microbus driver Limon, 28, son of Saifur Rahman of Dhaldanga village.

Among the injured, four were identified as Hamidul Islam, Shanta, Samer Ali and Jaba, all residents of Bhurungamari. The identities of the remaining victims could not be immediately confirmed.

According to witnesses, the passengers were travelling to Bhurungamari after visiting a doctor in Rangpur when a maize-laden truck coming from the opposite direction lost control and rammed into the microbus.

Confirming the incident, Nageshwari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Hil Zaman said three people died on the spot, including two men and a child. Several others, including women and a child, sustained serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

No arrests have been made so far, and further investigation is underway, police added.
