Three killed, 20 injured in head-on bus-truck collision in Tangail
At least three people, including two women and a child, were killed and 20 others injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a sand-laden truck in Madhupur upazila of Tangail.
The accident took place around 10:00pm in the Raktipara area along the Tangail-Mymensingh-Jamalpur regional highway on Thursday (Juky 30), police and fire service officials said.
According to Madhupur Police Station Investigation Officer Anwar Hossain, all the casualties were passengers of the bus. The bodies have been recovered and kept at the hospital morgue, while efforts are underway to confirm the identities of the victims.
Madhupur Fire Service Station Officer Borhan Ali said rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the information and carried out rescue operations.
He said the two women and the child died on the spot following the impact, while the sand-laden truck fled the scene after the collision.
The injured were rescued and taken to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, where eight people remain under treatment.
Several critically injured passengers were later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and other nearby healthcare facilities for advanced treatment.
Police said further legal action is underway, while efforts continue to trace the truck involved in the crash.
