At least three people were killed and around 30 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a leguna in Karnaphuli Upazila of Chattogram.

The accident occurred around 8:30pm near the Taltala crossing adjacent to the Vellapara Bridge area on Thursday night (May 28).

According to officials at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, the injured were rushed to hospital following the crash, where three victims later died while undergoing treatment. The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

Witnesses said an Eagle Paribahan passenger bus was reportedly travelling at high speed on the wrong side of the road toward the Karnaphuli crossing when it collided head-on with an oncoming three-wheeler leguna.

The impact left the leguna badly mangled, causing severe injuries to many passengers. Local residents and bystanders immediately launched rescue efforts and transported the injured to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and other nearby healthcare facilities.

Law enforcement personnel later arrived at the scene and continued rescue and recovery operations.

Confirming the incident, Karnaphuli Police Station’s Second Officer Nurul Islam said both the bus and the leguna had been seized, and legal proceedings over the incident were underway.

Police said several of the injured remain in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise further.
