Three killed as bus crashes into parked covered van in Feni

Three people, including the drivers and helpers of a covered van and a bus, were killed and another injured after a bus crashed into a stationary covered van on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chhagalnaiya of Feni.

The accident took place around 7:30am in front of Daulatpur Government Primary School on Friday morning (September 4), police said.

According to Fazilpur Highway Police, the covered van had broken down on the Chattogram-bound lane and was being prepared for removal after being attached to a long vehicle. A speeding bus of Unique Paribahan lost control and rammed into the covered van from behind.

The impact killed the covered van’s driver and helper and the bus driver on the spot. Their identities could not immediately be confirmed.

Fazilpur Highway Police Sub-Inspector Abu Noman said one person injured in the accident was rescued and taken to Feni 250-bed General Hospital, where they were receiving treatment.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the hospital morgue. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for a short time after the crash but later returned to normal.

Highway police seized the covered van, the Unique Paribahan bus and the long vehicle involved in the incident. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
