Three killed as truck rams autorickshaw in Lalmonirhat

Three people were killed and seven others injured after a truck rammed over a passenger autorickshaw in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The accident took place around 10am in the Ghunti area of Burimari Union on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat highway on Monday morning (September 28).

Locals said the autorickshaw was carrying passengers from Burimari Land Port towards Patgram when a truck travelling in the opposite direction reportedly developed a mechanical problem and crashed into it.

The impact sent the truck into a roadside shop before it ran over the autorickshaw, killing two passengers on the spot and injuring eight others, according to locals.

Fire service personnel and locals rescued the injured and took them to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where another passenger, identified as Mostakin, died while undergoing treatment.

Five critically injured passengers were later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, while two others remained at the Patgram health complex.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not immediately be confirmed. They are believed to be residents of Patgram.

Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station, confirmed three deaths and seven injuries, saying police were sent to the scene after receiving information about the crash.
