Three members of same family found dead in Sylhet home

Police recovered the bodies of three people, including a married couple and their domestic worker, from a house in Sylhet city’s Raynagar Mitali Residential Area on Wednesday morning (August 12).

The bodies were recovered from House No. 111 at around 9:00am.

The identities of the victims and the cause of their deaths have yet to be officially confirmed.

Local residents said the victims included Haji Abdus Sattar Mia, 82, his wife Suraiya Begum, 72 and their domestic worker Tahmina, 15. Sattar Mia, locally known as Sattar Mia, was regarded as a respected elder in the neighbourhood.

News of the deaths spread quickly through the area, causing concern among residents. Shortly after the matter goes public, police were informed and rushed to the house to secure the scene and begin an initial assessment.

Police suspect the deaths may be linked to a possible homicide, but officials said it would be premature to determine the cause of death before a proper investigation and forensic examination.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Manzurul Alam said police were heading to the scene after receiving information about the incident.

Khan Md Moinul Zakir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that police had received reports of three bodies being found at the house.

"The circumstances surrounding the deaths and the identities of the victims would become clear after the investigation," he said.

Police said further details would be released after officers examine the scene and complete the necessary legal procedures.
