Three high-profile individuals from Satkhira—all bearing the same name, Nazrul Islam—appeared before the courts on the same day. While one of them secured bail from the high court, the other two were ordered to be sent to jail.

Coincidentally, the three Nazrul Islams approached the courts in separate cases on Monday (August 10). The matter sparked widespread discussion throughout Satkhira all day and drew various comments on social media.

The three individuals are Satkhira-4 (Shyamnagar) Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam, District Awami League (activities banned) General Secretary and former District Council Chairman Md. Nazrul Islam, and Shyamnagar's Burigoalini Union Parishad Chairman Haji Nazrul Islam.

MP Gazi Nazrul Islam: Following the viral spread of an objectionable video involving a young woman, a case was filed against Gazi Nazrul Islam at the capital's Pallabi Police Station on July 22. Filed by the young woman's uncle, the case brings charges of assault and attempted murder over protests against an illicit relationship and suspected involvement in spreading the video.

Anticipating arrest after the case was filed, Gazi Nazrul Islam applied for bail in the high court. On Monday afternoon, the court granted his bail.

District Awami League's Nazrul Sent to Jail: On the same day, District Awami League General Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam was produced before a Satkhira court. He was shown arrested in five murder cases filed at Sadar Police Station.

The cases accuse him of ordering and abetting the killing of BNP and Jamaat activists under the guise of "crossfires" back in 2014.

Following a hearing in the court of Satkhira Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Bilash Mandal, Md. Nazrul Islam was ordered to be sent to jail. The next hearing date for the case has been set for October 29.

He was escorted by police to a vehicle outside the court premises to be taken to prison. Family members were present at the time, and some relatives were seen crying as he waved to the gathering crowd before boarding the vehicle.

Haji Nazrul's Bail Rejected: On the other hand, with the expiration of his six-week high court bail, Shyamnagar's Burigoalini UP Chairman Haji Nazrul Islam and his associate Biswajit Mondal appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday to apply for bail.

Following a hearing in a case filed over extortion, assault, and threats related to a Water Development Board flood control embankment construction project, the court rejected their bail petitions. Both were subsequently ordered to be sent to jail.

Plaintiff's lawyer Pavitra Kumar stated that they opposed the bail of the accused in the case filed for extortion and obstructing government development work. After the hearing, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.

State counsel Sheikh Abdus Sattar also confirmed the sending of Md. Nazrul Islam and Haji Nazrul Islam to jail in their respective cases.

The simultaneous appearance of three high-profile individuals with the same name before the courts on a single day became a major talking point in Satkhira, prompting various reactions and comments on social media.
