Three of a family killed as truck crushes motorcycle in Khulna

Three members of the same family, including a two-year-old child, were killed after a truck struck and ran over a motorcycle in Dighalia upazila of Khulna late Friday night (July 31). Two others, including the motorcycle rider, sustained serious injuries.

The fatal accident took place around 10:30pm in the Ambariya area of Gazirhat Union, police said.

The deceased were identified as Farzana Khatun, wife of Sihab Sheikh of Uthila village in Kalia upazila of Narail; their two-year-old daughter Maymuna; and Farzana's younger sister Rubiya Khatun, 16.

Motorcycle rider Sihab Sheikh and a van driver were critically injured and admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

According to police, the truck was travelling from Gazirhat towards Rupsha, while the motorcycle was heading in the opposite direction from Rupsha to Kalia. During an attempt to give way, the motorcycle reportedly lost control and came under the wheels of the heavy vehicle, leaving three passengers dead at the scene.

Shuvro Prokash, Investigation Officer of Dighalia Police Station, said authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and taking legal action in accordance with the law.

The accident has cast a pall of grief over the victims' family and the local community.
