Three of same family die from electrocution in Chapainawabganj
Three members of the same family have died from electrocution in Chapainawabganj. The incident occurred around 6am on Tuesday (July 21) in the Lakshmipur Badurtala area of Barogharia Union in the sadar upazila.
The deceased are Hasina Begum, wife of Md Bhiku Mandal of Lakshmipur Badurtala village in Barogharia Union; her granddaughter Mosa Mim Khatun (13), daughter of Rabiul Islam Babu of Lakshmipur Hajipara village; and her niece Mosa Asha Khatun (30), daughter of Ershad Ali of Kachua Mohanpur village under Tanore Police Station in Rajshahi district.
According to police and family sources, Hasina Begum came out of her house in the morning and touched an iron ladder in the yard to go up to the roof. However, due to an electrical fault, the ladder had become electrified, electrocuting her. When her granddaughter Mim and niece Asha rushed to save her, they were also electrocuted. All three died on the spot.
Meanwhile, Hasina's son Rifat survived as he was asleep inside the house. Her husband Bhiku Mandal, who had gone to the fields early in the morning for agricultural work, also survived.
Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station SI Arifur Rahman said the bodies will be handed over to the family after completion of legal procedures, including preparation of the inquest report.
