Three 'push-in' victims go missing at Joypurhat border
Three people who were victims of a push-in attempt from India at the Joypurhat border have gone missing under mysterious circumstances, with conflicting accounts emerging over their fate.
According to local sources, on Saturday morning, July 11, Indian border guards (BSF) allegedly attempted to push five people into Bangladesh in the dark. Two of them managed to flee.
The remaining three—Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, Nasima Begum and Shefali Begum—were detained by locals and handed over to the BGB. The BGB took them to the zero line (no man's land), placed them under guard and contacted the BSF.
However, by Sunday morning, July 12, the three individuals had vanished. Relatives, including the son of Hafizur and Nasima, arrived at the border after news of the incident spread but were not allowed to take them back. The BGB reportedly advised them to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
When asked, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Mamun, commander of BGB's Patnitala Battalion, said the BSF had taken them away at some point during the night. The three remain untraceable.
