Three sentenced to death driver Sajib murder case in Chattogram
A Chattogram court has sentenced three people to death for the murder of driver Md. Sajib in the city's Toll Road area. Judge Md. Tajul Islam of the 5th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Chattogram delivered the verdict on Monday (August 17).
The death row convicts are Nurul Amin from Baniyachong in Habiganj, Shahjahan from Debidwar in Cumilla, and Nurul Alam Tutul from Feni Sadar Upazila. Among them, Nurul Alam Tutul was present in court during the verdict announcement, while the remaining two suspects remain absconding.
Bench Assistant of the court S.M. Kawsar Sagar confirmed the matter, stating, "As the charges in the murder case were proven beyond reasonable doubt, the court ordered the death sentence for the three accused along with a fine of 50,000 BDT each."
According to the case record, driver Md. Sajib went missing on October 17, 2021 after leaving his home. He used to transport goods across various districts.
Ten days after his disappearance, on October 27, the unidentified body of a man was recovered from Sekandar's farmland on the west side of the Industrial Police acquired land, east of Toll Road under Pahartali Police Station. Later, through fingerprints and National ID card details, the body was identified as Sajib, a resident of Chatkhil in Noakhali.
Police documents state that Sajib had blunt force injuries to the back of his head, sharp weapon wounds on his chest, and injury marks on various parts of his body. Following the investigation into the incident, the police submitted a charge sheet in court accusing the three individuals.
The trial officially began on October 11, 2023 with the framing of charges against the accused. After taking the testimonies of 21 witnesses in the case, the verdict was delivered on Monday.
