Three teens arrested over gang rape of schoolgirl in Bhola
Police have arrested three teenagers over the alleged gang rape of a fifth-grade schoolgirl in Bhola's Borhanuddin Upazila after a video of the assault circulated on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
The arrests were made on Tuesday night after the victim's brother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The three suspects—aged 16, 17 and 17—were produced before a court on Wednesday (August 5).
According to the case statement and police, the incident took place on July 26, when the girl was returning home from school. She was allegedly abducted from the roadside and taken to a nearby orchard in Kachia Union, where several youths sexually assaulted her. Investigators said some of the accused also recorded the assault on video.
The case came to light after the video spread online on Tuesday, prompting the victim's family to seek legal action.
Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) Borhanuddin Police Station, said, "Three suspects were arrested immediately after the case was filed, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend others involved."
"The victim has been sent to Bhola Sadar Hospital for medical treatment and forensic examination. An investigation is underway into this matter," he added.
