Three teens tied to tree, tortured over alleged banana theft in Pabna
Three teenage boys were allegedly tied to a tree and beaten over accusations of stealing bananas from a plantation in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.
The incident took place in Dubolchhara area under Muladuli union on Thursday afternoon (May 7), police said.
Acting on information, officers later rescued the victims from the spot.
Police said the victims, students of a local school, are residents of Char Mirkamari village under Salimpur union in the same upazila. They had reportedly visited Dubolchhara area after private tutoring in Dashuria and allegedly stole bananas from a garden on a dare, according to initial claims.
Locals later detained the teenagers and tied them to a tree, after which images of the incident circulated on social media.
Bijon Kumar Sarkar, sub-inspector (SI) of Ishwardi Police Station, said, a team rushed to the scene and rescued the boys, but the attackers fled before police arrived.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asadur Rahman said the matter is under investigation. However, no written complaint has been filed so far, which is complicating the probe.
Legal action will be taken once a complaint is received, he added.
