Three-month-old infant dies after airway blockage in Chuadanga
A three-month-old baby girl died after milk was suspected to have blocked her airway while she was asleep in home at Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga.
The incident took place in the Primary School Para area of Jibannagar municipality in the early hours of Saturday (June 27).
The deceased, Meghla Ghosh, was the younger daughter of Madhu Ghosh and Saraswati Ghosh.
According to family members, Meghla was fed and put to sleep by her mother on Friday night. At dawn, her father, who had just returned home from Dhaka, picked up the infant and noticed that something was wrong. Family members found the baby's face had turned bluish and her limbs were motionless before rushing her to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex.
Doctors at the hospital declared the infant dead on arrival.
Dr. Touhidul Islam, the attending physician at the health complex, said the child had likely died one to two hours before being brought to the hospital.
Based on the initial examination, doctors suspect that milk entered the infant's airway, causing fatal suffocation. He added that the exact cause of death could be confirmed through further medical examination if required.
The infant's mother, Saraswati Ghosh, said her daughter had been fed normally before being put to bed and showed no signs of illness during the night.
Solaiman Sheikh, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jibannagar Police Station, said, "Police were informed of the incident. Legal procedures would be followed if necessary to determine the precise cause of the infant's death."
