Thundershowers with winds up to 60 km/h likely in seven regions today
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasts of rain or thundershowers over seven regions of the country, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h.
According to a storm warning issued by the BMD's Storm Warning Centre on Saturday (July 25), the affected areas may experience winds of 45–60 km/h from the south or southeast by 1:00pm, along with lightning and rainfall.
The warning covers Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar, where sudden squalls and thunderstorms may pose risks to river transport and coastal activities.
The weather office has instructed inland river ports in the affected regions to hoist Cautionary Signal No. 1 and remain on alert due to the possibility of sudden gusty winds and lightning over river basins.
In its nationwide forecast, the BMD said many places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, and a few places in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers.
It also warned of moderately heavy to heavy rainfall at isolated places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
Meanwhile, both day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country.
