Thunderstorms, 60 km/h gusts forecast for Dhaka, six regions

Dhaka and six other regions of Bangladesh may experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour by early afternoon on Saturday, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.

The weather office has advised river ports in the affected areas to display warning signal No. 1 as a precaution.

According to the six-hour forecast issued for Dhaka and its adjoining areas from 7am, the capital may see temporarily cloudy to overcast skies, with rain or thundershowers likely. Winds may blow from the south or southeast at 10–15 km/h.

Dhaka recorded a minimum temperature of 27.5°C on Saturday morning, while the maximum temperature on Friday was 35°C. At 6am, the temperature stood at 27.8°C, with relative humidity at 87 percent. The capital received 1mm of rainfall in the previous 24 hours. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.

For the period from 5am to 1pm, the Met Office forecast temporary gusty or squally winds of 45–60 km/h accompanied by rain or thunderstorms over Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

The weather department advised people in the affected areas to remain cautious as the squally weather develops.
