Thunderstorms likely in 18 districts as low pressure forms in Bay
A seasonal low-pressure system is located over the south Bay of Bengal, with its extended reach spreading over West Bengal and adjoining areas. The weather department has forecast thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 km per hour in 18 districts across the country.
In a forecast issued at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 5, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur in one or two places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Hailstorms are also possible in some places. Day and night temperatures may drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius across the country.
The mild to moderate heatwave sweeping over Tangail, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna and Patuakhali districts, as well as Khulna division, may subside, the forecast added.
A Nor'wester warning has been issued for 18 districts from 1:30 pm on Sunday until 1:00 am on Monday. The districts include Dhaka, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Rangamati and Sylhet. River ports in these areas have been asked to hoist warning signal number 1.
The weather office said this spell of gusty winds, thunderstorms and hailstorms may continue in various parts of the country over the next few days.
