The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds over parts of northern and northeastern Bangladesh, prompting cautionary signals for inland river ports.

According to a bulletin issued early Saturday (May 16), river ports in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions have been advised to hoist Signal No. 1 from 5:00am to 1:00pm, due to the likelihood of squally weather.

The forecast warns that these regions may experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusts of wind reaching 45–60 kmph.

Meanwhile, for Dhaka and its surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy and generally dry over the next six hours from 7:00am. Winds may blow from the south or southeast at 10–15 kmph, with temperatures likely to remain largely unchanged.

At 6:00am on Saturday, Dhaka recorded a temperature of 28.2°C with humidity at 87 percent. The previous day, the city’s maximum temperature reached 35.2°C, while the minimum stood at 26.6°C. Only trace rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours.

Sunset in the capital is expected at 6:34pm, with sunrise at 5:15am the following day.

In its 24-hour outlook issued Friday evening, the Met Office also said many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet, and some areas in Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also possible in parts of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, it added.

The bulletin further noted that day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain nearly unchanged, while a mild heatwave continues over parts of Khulna division and districts including Madaripur, Chandpur and Noakhali.
