Thunderstorms likely to hit eight regions by this evening
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms and squally weather across eight regions of the country, advising caution for inland river ports until 6:00 pm on Wednesday (May 20).
According to the weather office, gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45–60 kmph may sweep over parts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Bogura, Mymensingh, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Sylhet regions, accompanied by lightning and rain.
In view of the forecast, river ports in the affected areas have been advised to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 1.
In its regular bulletin, the Met Office also said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are likely in many areas of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and in parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
It added that some places in Mymensingh and Sylhet may experience moderate to heavy rainfall during the period.
Authorities have urged caution as unstable weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.
