Thunderstorms with gusty winds likely in 9 regions by afternoon

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in nine regions of the country by Sunday afternoon.

The warning was issued in the weather bulletin for inland river ports, valid from 5:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday.

According to the forecast, the regions of Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty or squally winds blowing from the south or southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour.

The Met Office also said the affected areas are likely to receive rain or thundershowers during the forecast period.

In view of the expected adverse weather, the department has instructed all inland river ports in the nine regions to continue displaying Cautionary Signal No. 1 until further notice.
