Thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 60 kmph likely in 9 districts, including Dhaka

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast temporary gusty winds and thunderstorms across Dhaka and eight other districts, with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour by 6:00pm.

In a forecast issued on Monday (May 11), Assistant Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa said that squally weather may affect Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla and Chattogram.

The Met Office said winds from the west or northwest may temporarily intensify, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms in these areas.

In response to the forecast, river ports in the affected regions have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1. Authorities have also urged all river vessels to operate with heightened caution due to possible adverse weather conditions.

Meteorologists noted that such temporary squally weather is being observed in parts of the country due to ongoing atmospheric variations.
