Thunderstorms with winds up to 60kmph likely in 10 regions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast gusty winds of up to 60km/h accompanied by rain and thunderstorms over 10 regions of the country, prompting authorities to advise inland river ports to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

In a special weather bulletin issued for inland river ports, valid from 5:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday (July 23), meteorologist Md Omar Faruk said the affected regions include Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet.

According to the forecast, south to south-easterly winds may temporarily sweep across these areas at speeds of 45-60km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers. Skies are also expected to remain cloudy to overcast.

In view of the adverse weather conditions, the BMD has instructed inland river ports in the affected regions, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Sylhet, to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1 and urged vessel operators to remain vigilant.
